About
Amanda
Born into a musical family, it’s no wonder Amanda chose to follow in their footsteps. Her interest in music began at school where she won the school talent contest for writing and singing her own song, accompanying herself on the piano. Song writing then became one of Amanda’s passions and to date she has written and recorded much of her own work. Amanda’s music has been described as ‘Bohemian folk-pop with an urban twist’ and compared lyrically and in biographical style to artists Sheryl Crowe, Kirsty McColl and Lilly Allen. It is Amanda’s quirky musical style in which she uses her lyrics to reflect on her observations on life, which sets her apart and is hence the title to her current album project ‘Observations.’
Never one to be pigeon-holed, Amanda continues to broaden her range to encompass Jazz and Blues as they suit her low vocal range and are genres that she is keen to explore further.
At the end of 2006, BBC Three Counties Radio invited Amanda on to the Katherine Boyle show where she was interviewed and her songs were played. They also receive frequent airplay in Spain where she has performed with her father’s band at several gigs.
Amanda was recently chosen to play Frida in one of the UK’s most popular ABBA tribute bands "ABBA Magic" who have been performing for approx 10 years in theatre show "Thank You for the Music" in and around the UK and Europe. When in the UK and not performing with “Thank You for the Music,” Amanda rejoins a previous band, the much applauded ‘Deja Vu.’ She enjoys the variety of this band as they perform segways of songs from the 40’s ‘Glenn Miller Swing 50’s ‘Doo-wap’, 60’s ‘Motown’, 70’s disco/rock era, and the 80’s and present day.
Amanda has also enjoyed performing regularly with other function bands
including ‘Dave Finnegan’s Commitments Band’ and ‘Ginger Pig’ 12 piece jazz band and has sung with them at London’s highly acclaimed ‘100 Club.’
Amanda has gathered an extensive repertoire of songs whether it be pop, soul, jazz or classic ballads. She has the opportunity to showcase her wide-ranging selection of up-beat tempo’s and melodic ballads when she performs her one woman shows.
Television beckoned in the mid nineties which saw Amanda co-presenting a TV show ‘Breakin’ Thru’ for ITV and earlier in the 80’s, took part in a children’s TV programme ‘The Wall Game.’
A local theatre Group, SPATS also recruited Amanda as needing a quality entertainer to perform and assist in putting on shows, which she did, and successfully toured with the group enjoying a particularly warm welcome in Denmark.
Amanda is a model part time and has been approached on many occasions to take part in shoots locally for small companies and photographer’s books.
Amanda is known for her famously long legs which got her through to the finals of Braun’s ‘UK’s Perfect Pins’ in 2006! She came first in her region.
