About
April April is an actress, filmmaker and model who took her first acting class when she was five years old, and performed in her first professional play when she was only ten years old - at the request of one of her acting teachers. She started pursuing acting in earnest when she turned eighteen and wanted something meaningful, passionate and fun to do with her life. At its core, April feels that acting opens your heart to strangers and lets them take something from the experience. She believes that artists have a chance to influence society and make a difference to the community and culture in ways that last, sometimes long after the artists themselves are gone. As a filmmaker in this day and age, April is excited about having the chance to influence and innovate in ways that may lead the direction of the art form for years to come. One quality that influences April's filmmaking is her love of children. Currently, she is making and directing children's fantasy movies. Because she loves kids and fantasy films, producing children's fantasy movies provides her a significant opportunity to be creative and to share her passsion with kids of all ages. The latest children's fantasy film produced by April is titled "Soles," and is about a little girl gaining the confidence to make friends in a new place. What got April interested in making children's movies was working for Atlanta Workshop Players (AWP), and non-profit children's theater company in Atlanta, GA. She began interning for them as a summer camp counselor when she was 17 years old. She continues to work with them as an on camera acting coach today, preparing them for on-camera auditions or to get an agent. It is amazing what April sees AWP doing for Children. They become confident, they want to help others, and they learn to respect each others differences. Coaching the kids at AWP is the most rewarding job April feels she has ever had, and she still volunteers time there. April currently attends Florida State University's film school, which is recognized as one of the top three film schools in the world, and the only one recognized by the DGA for its contributions to American Cinema. Her thesis project is about children with superpowers. To gather background information, April went to elementary schools and had kids fill out worksheets that guided them through a story that told her how they would use their chosen superpower to solve a problem in their life. She adapted several stories, mainly written by fourth and fifth graders into screenplays. She will make three of these films for her university thesis project. The films will open the eyes of parents enabling them to see some of the issues that their children are dealing with, and encourage the parents to speak with their children about these issues. April is currently sending her last film, "Soles," to the children's festival circuit. After April graduates from FSU at the end of 2006, she will move to LA, where she will continue making films and acting. For one of her projects, April plans to visit more schools and make more films about children with superpowers, then adapt the stories into a book. She also plans to team up with a couple of friends to work on a documentary and a short film overseas. The short will be filmed in South Africa, and will be aimed at AIDS education for Africans. Of special nopte, April is a superb martial artist who was featured in the March 2006 issue of Inside Kung-Fu Magazine. She enjoy extreme sports like snowboarding and rockclimbing. Her current workout schedule includes dancing and Capoiera (the Brazilian dance-like martial art). News: April currently
has top-billing on a DVD on the new release shelf at Blockbuster, "Andre
