About
Danielle Danielle loves loud music and craves guitars that kick you in the ass! She knows where she is from. She knows what she likes. By the way, she doesn't like to rock. She LOVES to rock! Danielle realized that she wanted to make music early on. It was an appetite acquired in childhood. Like so many other musically inclined, she started with the piano at age nine. She tried many other instruments but pushed them all aside when she turned twelve. The piano and flute got neglected in favor of lessons to develop a singing voice. It was the magic age of twelve that Danielle set her sights on the dream to become a talented singer. She worked hard to find her distinct voice. "I never believed I was born with a singing voice. I knew I was musical and a songwriter, but the singing was something I believed I had to invent and work at. It turns out that I just had to stop trying and let it come out naturally." The guitar was a natural too. Danielle grew up in a house full of her fathers guitars and even made up songs as a kid while her dad played along. But she didnt realize what a great songwriting tool it would be till later on. Now guitar is a fixture in Danielles life and has enabled her to carve out her own style of songwriting. Danielle McKee is not afraid to tell you whats on her mind lately. She demonstrates just that on her fresh off the press debut album, "Twelve." Danielle started out five years ago with a hunger to develop a style that would express her conundrums, frustrations, her passions and realizations. She began to write music that reflected her thoughts and released her personality into music as she sought for her creative identity. Soon after the pursuit began, she went on the road to support Nelly Furtado with background vocals. This set her on a path of growth in style and knowledge of the art of creating and performing. "I learned a lot from Nelly Furtados craft. Her musical sense seemed to have no boundaries and her truth in performance inspired me." After touring, Danielle created a short CD with friend and fellow band-mate, guitarist Mike K. But there was still a thirst to be quenched for Danielle. "I loved the songs but I knew there was something more to be discovered inside so I waited for it to show itself." Sure enough, in 2004, a customized version of artistic expression was born when Danielle and Mike decided it was time to create again. Finally, Danielle discovered music she can wear like a comfy blanket, but never hide behind! That collection of music is titled Twelve. "Twelve is a magic number. The number twelve represents a cycle of growth, renewal and achievement for me. In twelve months I loved, laughed, cried, learned, gave, accepted and grew into a more focused, expressive and dedicated artist." "In the twelve months it took everyone involved to create the record, I was able to form twelve complete expressions in the form of songs. They document how I got here and all the amazing and stupid ass stuff I did along the way. I am now grateful for all the good bad moments that accompanied those twelve months. Those are the moments that have been woven into the record." Today Danielle is clear, decisive, literal, both in your face and intimate. The songs on Twelve stand out and pack a punch of kicking guitars, killer drums, intriguing melodies, and bare lyrics that reach out and compel you to take notice. Danielle appears on Discovergirls' new CD for the benefit of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on the Catalyst 18 banner to learn more about the hottest album of 2006!
