About Heather

Heather is a skilled performer with a keen eye for opportunity. A graduate of Boston University's classical music program, she possesses a mind-blowing 3½ octave range. She learned piano and performed throughout New England as a lyric soprano soloist. Her potential in the classical field was evident - winning competitions and traveling in Europe as a soloist. However, Heather wanted to find a bigger audience. The very same weekend she graduated as a promising opera singer, she impetuously set out for Las Vegas, the host city of the Miss Millennium pageant. Expecting a fun weekend, perhaps an interesting learning experience, she walked out with a title, besting 199 talented peers. Becoming Miss Millennium 2002 was a turning point in Heather's life. That event ended up being the catalyst that incited her current career path.

As part of the award, she set out on a national tour through which she was able to promote her first CD, the self-penned, self-titled, "Heather." A pop/dance collection, the CD sold very well. About 30,000 copies were purchased by Heather's growing fan base. More importantly, however, the tour provided Heather with inspiration for the next phase of her writing. At her shows, she was able to connect with the teenage girls who admired her for her talent and her strong feminine persona. Heather was moved by their need for a role model who cared about more than beauty tips and flirting techniques. "I wanted to write about what it means to be a strong woman in a way that girls could realize that it's a potential they already have, it's something they naturally already are," Heather said after that experience.

The pieces all started to fall into place when Heather caught the attention of Ed Bennett, the founder of VH1 and Comedy Central, a former MTV exec, and an internationally acclaimed music producer. With his help, she has since filmed a music video and co-written a new album, Goddess 2004. Goddess draws its inspiration from the girls that Heather had encountered while touring America. Her excitement is palpable when asked to describe the work. "The album's spiritual, but it's not religious," she says, "It's Mother Nature as a force of equality." Part Beyonce, part Faith Hill and part Alicia Keyes, the album offers a great hip-hop flavor and stunning pop vocals in addition to its socially conscious message.

The album is set to reach the larger audience that Heather has been seeking. Not only is she tied to producer Ed Bennett, but she has also recently been signed by power-player publicist Lizzie Grubman. She has become a fixture of the New York circuit, making appearances at parties hosted by celebrities like Ja Rule and Rachel Hunter. Everyone working with her seems to agree: Heather Schmid is the real deal, and her star will only continue to rise.
