About Kate Singer/songwriter Kate Voegele is only 19, though music industry types have been talking about this dynamic young performer for two years now. A freshman at Miami University, Kate is focusing on art and her music career. Her song "Only Fooling Myself" recently won the Pop category of the 2005 USA Songwriting Contest. Kate was the youngest artist ever to win that award. This
past summer, after graduating from high school, the Bay Village, Ohio
native continued to perform at high profile events including Farm Aid,
two support slots for John Mellencamp, a showcase at the Midwest Music
Summit in Indianapolis and a performance at the NBA Rhythm and Rims event
in Chicago. Kate released her latest EP, Louder Than Words, in
February of 05, which includes some revamped and previously unreleased
material. The songs were recorded with producer Marshall Altman (Marc
Broussard, Zebrahead) and instantly drew the attention of several major
labels that have already been following Kates stellar young career.
The
EP release came on the heels of Kate being selected in the January 2005
issue of Cleveland Magazine as one of the citys most interesting
people. Kate also performed at Farm Aid in 2004 and 2005 along with Dave
Matthews, Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp. Other
notable acts Kate has shared the stage with include John Mayer, Howie
Day, Jamie Cullum, and Mindy Smith. She
was also selected as a finalist for Northern Ohio Live's Awards of Achievement,
and was one of three national finalists in the Pantene Pro-Voice Competition,
receiving national exposure on MTV. Her song Only Fooling Myself
was also featured in an episode of CBSs drama Clubhouse. In her
two independent releases to date including 2003s The Other Side,
Kate combines thoughtful lyrics with melodic sensibility to create a catchy
acoustic-driven sound that has drawn comparison to Michelle Branch, as
well as a young Joni Mitchell or Patty Griffin.
