About Katie

Katie Underwood is most recently known for her success with the Australian dance act Disco Montego and her Top 10 hit "Beautiful," which was released early in 2002. "Beautiful" won the award for Most Played Australian Dance Track at the 2003 APRA awards, received an ARIA nomination for best pop release in 2003, and won the ARIA for Best Video.

KATIE’S first public appearance was at the age of 11 at the Adelaide State Theatre. Following that performance she was asked to join 3 different choirs. Realizing that she may have a future in singing, Katie joined the Adelaide Girls Choir and sang with them until she was 16 years old. Following her HSC Katie began studies at Adelaide University while working part-time as a singing waitress. In 1996, she moved to Melbourne. It was there, two years later, that her friends finally convinced her to do something with her talent. In February 1999, she went on to record a dance track with UK Trance act Terra Ferma, releasing her first single "Don't Be Afraid" in the UK. She also recorded three more tracks, which were included on the Terra Ferma album released in early 2000.

After returning from the UK, Katie began working with singer/songwriter Charlie Rooke (formerly of The Sharp) and they formed a jazz-swing band called Corduroy Lounge. Then in October 1999, Katie auditioned for the TV show "Popstars," making it through to the final five. As a result she was selected to join the all girl pop group, Bardot.

Bardot achieved huge success with a double platinum album and single in Australia and New Zealand with two singles achieving Gold. The group travelled extensively throughout Asia, achieving similar success in that territory. In October 2000 the group picked up three ARIA nominations for highest selling single, highest selling album and best video. While with Bardot, Katie also performed alongside Skunkhour, Taxiride and Tim Freedman to support Australian and NZ troops in East Timor as part of the East Timor Tour De Force 2000.

Katie left Bardot in 2001, and has since gone on to do an array of things. She has performed at the L’Oreal Color Trophy Awards, the NRL Grand Final and appeared as the wedding singer on Roy & HG’s The Monday Dump, Wedding Edition. She has also begun a career in television, working as a presenter in the recent Channel 7 series Undercover Angels. Katie released her first solo single 'Danger' in 2003 and received her secondnomination for an APRA award in 2004. She has since been writing and recording with a number of local DJs and producers and has recently released a new album with T-Funk called "Be Together."
