About Kelly "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" are the best words to describe, Canadian singer/songwriter, Kelly Brock. Ferociously independent and strong-willed, Brock gave herself to music once she graduated from high school and has not looked back ever since. "Music has been my saving grace. I feel that I have grown and experienced things that I never would have, if I hadn't taken this road," says the eldest daughter of four girls. Growing up on the west coast of British Columbia, Brock was exposed to music at a very young age. "My Dad was a high-school band teacher for years. Both him and my Mother loved music- I grew up listening to everything from the Beatles, to R&B greats like Otis Redding, Sam & Dave and Aretha; all of my Dad's favourites, while being exposed to my Mother's love of country music, particularly Dolly Parton." These early mentors of pop/rock, soul and country have found their way into Brock's music. Her latest CD, Dirty Dishes, is a culmination of her musical influences, her years of experience and how all of this has brought her to where she is today. "Dirty Dishes, I feel, is the truest expression of who I am as a person, a writer and a singer. After over ten years of playing in different bands, releasing my own CD's and singing to drunk people night after night, somewhere along the way I was hit with some clarity and I began to realize how all the years of craziness finally seem to make sense." This sense of confidence and wisdom shines thru brilliantly on the new disc with such tracks as the roots-pop, lyrically compassionate, "Silver Heart" and "Forgiveness," the "Let's hop in the car and get the hell of here" sentiment in "Drive Away" and the self-penned confessional, "Grateful." Brock states, "For me, I have always loved how someone like Sting can make a beautifully artistic record but still have a couple of killer radio hits on there as well. I've tried to incorporate that philosophy into Dirty Dishes by writing and including some light-hearted, happy pop tunes like 'High On The Sunshine' and the fun, Hank Williams influenced, country ditty, 'Dirty Dishes'." Brock's music has been featured on many popular TV dramas including Dawson's Creek, Smallville, Joan Of Arcadia, Beautiful People and the Chris Issak Show. The title track from her latest CD, "Dirty Dishes" and "Drive Away" were also featured on the Food Network's, The Surreal Gourmet, and in November 2005, Warner Music Canada released a CD compilation of songs from the show that includes Brock's self-penned tune, "Drive Away" along with other artists including kdlang, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Moby and Tom Waits. Along with writing and recording her own material, Brock has been singing and performing live for many years with the fun-loving house-band, Dr. Strangelove and the very entertaining female vocal pop/jazz-trio, The Sirens. Brock also sings back-ups with the popular 80's rock band, Loverboy and will be featured in their up and coming live concert DVD release, scheduled for 2006.
