About Tracy

In a crowded coffee house or on the main-stage at a rock show, Tracy has a way of making you feel like she’s singing just for you. Her sound has been compared to The Sundays and Fiona Apple, but make no mistake - she has a style all her own. Tracy is the girl next door, with the guts to sing everything you’ve ever wanted to say out loud but couldn’t find the words for. In her rocking shows she brings an energy that makes you angry one minute, sad the next, and at the end you are always left wanting more.

Her songwriting comes from such diverse influences as Mazzy Star, Avril Lavigne, Jimmy Eat World and “all the songwriters of the 80’s.” You’ll hear her sing once and enjoy it but there is something right below the surface that grabs ahold of your senses and won’t let go, until you find yourself listening to the songs over and over and over again, singing along at the top of your lungs, out the car window, with your heart on your sleeve.

Tracy’s debut EP, Oceans Under Jupiter, is a six song collaboration with Parker Theory’s lead singer Jesse Pruett. Produced by Jesse, recorded and engineered by Jeff Forrest of Doubletime Studio in El Cajon, the EP has been gaining recognition since being released. XM Satellite Radio's "Radio Unsigned" program featured Tracy as one of the *Futures*- defined by them as "Artists to look for in the future as they are gaining momentum every day" as well as featuring her music on The Radar Report- a special weekly radio program highlighting the "12 most notable artists in the United States."

Between getting airplay on 91X's Local music show "Loudspeaker" with Al Guerra as well as airplay on The Local 94.9FM with Anya Marina and Tim Pyles, and being reviewed by San Diego's City Beat magazine, Tracy Johnson was labeled “Extra Special Good” in their March 30th Locals Only - all music issue. According to San Diego City Beat, the Oceans Under Jupiter EP is “an arresting comment on pop and well worth an ipod upload or a soundtrack for summer cruising with the top down…. Forsaking surface pop for melancholy catchiness.” So go ahead and listen for yourself, and be prepared to feel something.
