Rules, Criteria and Scoring

Rules for all Applicants

1. Your site must involve fashion, modeling, arts, television, entertainment, theater, film, radio, photography, music or related entertainment and arts industry topics.

2. Your website must be registered under a unique domain (like .com .org or .net), and must be the top level of that domain. For example, http://www.yahoo.com is the top level of the unique domain yahoo.com. A sub level of that domain is, for example, http://news.yahoo.com.

3. Your website must not contain illegal, pornographic, racist, profane, or hateful content (as determined by our reviwers).

4. You must be at least 18 years of age to apply. (We exceed the COPPA requirements.)

The Review Process

Your site will earn the DG Certified Award if it scores at least 90 points out of 100 possible points. We will review your website's content, design, and technical operation, paying particular attention to the quality of written and graphic content, organization, navigation and visual appeal. Our judges focus on the following specific elements.

Judging

Eight judges will review your site. Each judge will assign a score to the site based on the following criteria, and the average of the eight scores will be calculated to arrive at a final score.

Content (35 points possible)

Amount: We do not require a minimum number of pages. However, your site should fully cover your topic, and no major sections should be under construction.

Grammar, spelling and writing: We will carefully review your site for spelling errors and good use of language.

Graphics: Graphics displayed on a page should relate to the theme of the page, and not overpower written content.

Sound: Music and sound effects should relate to the theme of your website and be used tastefully.

Links: Your links should relate to your subject matter and reflect the good quality of your site. Linked sites should not contain illegal, pornographic, racist, profane, or hateful content.

Design (45 points possible)

Layout and spacing: Proper spacing and use of white or negative space is an important element of good website design. Maintain plenty of white space throughout your website. When designing the template for your pages, ensure that you leave plenty of margin space. Also, keep sufficient distance between gaphic and textual content.

Colors: We enjoy viewing sites that display creative use of color (or lack of color). Ensure that text and background color interaction does not cause undue eye strain.

Font: Your text should be clearly visible over the background. We recommend a sans serif font like Arial for body text, which is easier to read on a computer monitor than Times New Roman or a similar serif font. In general, we recommend a size 2 or 3 font.

Page size: Pages should fully fit within the width of standard sized monitors at common screen resolutions.

Ads: Ads should be integrated into your site's design with as little distraction from the primary content as possible.

Overall impression: Overall, your site should be professional in design quality.

Technical Matters (20 points possible)

Load time: HTML and Flash sites should fully load in under 30 seconds over a broadband connection.

Links: All internal links and most external links should be working. Internal links should usually open in the same browser window. External links should always open in a new browser window.

Navigation: Your site's navigation should be logical, easy to find on every page and easy to use. We should be able to move between pages and sections without having to use our browser's navigation buttons.

Use of technology: Visitors should not be required to download unusual programs to view your site.

Tricks and special effects: Your site should not have page transition effects, cursor tricks or pop-up ad windows.

Sound: Visitors to your site should be able to turn the sound off from your website. Music should download quickly.

Error messages: Error messages should not appear.
